Objectives

Apply the core learning principles to UAS instruction; map the levels of learning to the PQS proficiency codes; state why the qualification sequence puts memorization before understanding.

The principles that earn their keep in the field

• Primacy — what is learned first is learned best, right or wrong. This is why F-1 tolerates zero U grades on inspection tasks: the first inspection habits are the permanent ones.
• Levels of learning → proficiency codes — rote, understanding, application, correlation map directly onto K1, K2, P1, P2/P3. The PQS is a levels-of-learning document wearing a flight suit.
• Demonstration-performance — explain, demonstrate, student performs, instructor supervises, evaluate. The field lessons in HL-IQ-01 are built on this skeleton; teach with it deliberately, not accidentally.
• Why memorization first — under stress, retrieval narrows to what is overlearned. The boldface layer exists because the accident sequence is faster than comprehension. Teach students the reason, not just the requirement — adults learn what they see the point of (readiness).

The instructor’s honesty obligations

Grade what happened, not what was intended. A generous grade is a debt the student repays later, with interest, in front of an evaluator or an emergency.
