Objectives

State the three instructor tiers, the prerequisites for each, and the currency requirements that keep an instructor qualified.

The three tiers

  • Instructor Candidate — holds current platform qualification with P3 (perform, teach, and evaluate) proficiency demonstrated on designated PQS rows; enrolled in this course; teaches only under supervision of a qualified instructor.
  • Qualified Instructor (QI) — completed this course, passed the initial standardization evaluation (Lesson 2.3), authorized to instruct and to grade student tasks. QI status appears on the training matrix with its own currency clock.
  • Evaluator — a QI designated to conduct qualification evaluations and instructor standardization evaluations. Evaluators are the guardians of the standard; they are selected, not merely senior.

Why the ladder matters

Every level of the ladder is a control on grading drift. A candidate teaches under supervision so bad habits are caught before they propagate. A QI is re-evaluated periodically so drift is caught before it becomes culture. Evaluators are calibrated against each other so the standard has one meaning across the company.

Currency

Proposed: instruct or evaluate at least once per quarter and complete the annual instructor standardization evaluation; lapse either and QI status suspends until a re-evaluation. Final intervals set with the Manager, Flight Operations.
